Turkey Season 2025
Turkey season this year was very similar to 2024, I drew a second season turkey tag again. I didn’t have a lot of time to get out and scout, I was working about 2 hours away in Superior, Wi and wasn’t overly excited to get out. Typically, after a long winter, I’m jacked to get out and chase something, but work was stressful and I was enjoying my weekends relaxing and working on a new house. That all changed when Friday afternoon rolled around, I started to get excited about how it was going to play out, where I was going to go hunt, the pressure of only being able to hunt on Saturday and Sunday, all the situations and game planning running through my head, the rush of not knowing! As all of the thoughts are going through my little brain, I decided to call my friend, Mike, and see if I could go out and hunt one of his farms. Mike was excited for us to get together and get out and chase a bird together, just like we did in 2024. Its always fun going out wit Mike, he likes to have fun and fuck around a little and is just one of those guys that keeps people around him smiling. Saturday morning comes around and it was a little chilly outside, but the snow was gone, and the sun started coming out around 6:00am and before the sunrise we heard about 10 different gobbles all around us. We just knew this could be a crazy morning. We had my Avian X hen out, and my new Avian X Jake, and waited patiently until about 7:15 and didn’t have any birds come by yet. So I started getting a little anxious sitting and waiting and we decided to go for a walk through the woods and see if we couldn’t locate where all these birds went. Our walk through the woods was unsuccessful, but when we came back out into last years bean field we could see the decoys were being hammered by 6 different turkeys! So in an attempt to get one killed, I belly-crawled about 100 yards up a little bit of a hill so they couldn’t see me, as I was getting to the top of the hill and could get eyes on them again they were starting to work off the decoys and they came the perfect way. They started working single file in a gully to my left, I stayed as still as I could until the front bird was about 50 yards away, and then I stood up and dusted him! It was crazy! Such an adrenaline rush, I couldn’t believe it worked out like that on my first morning or a short two days of hunting. I was so excited, hooting and hollering, I went up to get the bird, and Mike went to go grab the golf cart. It was a great bird, about 18lbs, 10 inch beard, and 1 and 3/16 inch spurs, just a beautiful Tom Turkey. I am so thankful, and truly blessed to have good friends that let me hunt their land, and are just as excited as I am to get a bird. Can’t wait to see what turkey season 2026 has to bring, I have another 2nd season tag, and hopefully Mike is up for another fun hunt! Thank you guys for reading!
